BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION
Born on Romulus and educated in the Imperial War College, Kalah (Karliah) served in the Romulan Star Navy, most notably as a Centurion aboard the warbird Genorex in the events leading up to and during the Dominion War. She served with enough distinction to be promoted to Subcommander in the aftermath, and retained this rank until the destruction of Romulus.

After the supernova, Karliah retired her commission and eventually settled on an agrarian colony, remaining there until the colony was destroyed by invading aliens. She narrowly managed to escape alongside a handful of other survivors. After the invasion, Karliah joined the Star Empire remnants and was granted her former rank of Subcommander, though she received a field commission of Commander after the death of her superior officer during an engagement.

Though her ship was ruined, the battle was won, and Karliah's field commission was made permanent, and she was given command of a recently recovered Star Navy warbird. Despite being reasonably new, the ship had sustained some battle damage, so its first few missions were plagued with minor issues and inconveniences that had to be rectified with a gradual series of refits and updates as room and resources became available to the scraped-together Romulan fleet.

She must have spent too much time living free on a farm, as insubordination had been an occasional issue during Karliah's tenure as an officer. The situation came to a head after a disagreement with Admiral [REDACTED] resulted in the capturing of said Admiral's manor home in a force-field bubble and having it towed by tractor beam to the surface of her ruined colony. Karliah was immediately discharged and ordered to turn in her vessel and appear before a court martial.

Rather than return it, Karliah took the [REDACTED] and fled. Information regarding her activities during this period is scarce and ranges from the absurd to the probable, with some accounts claiming that she took her stolen vessel to the Vault to be outfitted to her liking, as though it were some kind of open garage that could be casually raided for parts. Another rumor insists that her ship was equipped by raiding Tal Shiar R&D stations, which might explain at least one of the bounties on her head. Yet another describes a series of dubious arrangements made with piratical alien groups infesting neutral space on the fringes of civilized territory.

Whatever the truth of the matter, many weeks passed before Karliah was detected in a remote corner of the Japori sector with a nearly unrecognizable ship bristling with legally-questionable technology and even heavier weaponry. The ship's previous designation had been entirely abandoned, and was now being called the Laehval Tagor (Shadow Talon). The sighting was brief, as the warbird didn't linger.

Perhaps fearing reprisals, Karliah took the Shadow Talon into Klingon space to make a deal. After a show of strength and no small amount of cajoling, she was granted conditional asylum and privateer status by the Empire, and immediately began lucrative sanctioned 'patrols' of the Neutral Zone. Over time, Karliah's tiny crew swelled in size, taking on more than just Romulan refugees to include warriors of the Empire and even a few Federation defectors.

During this period of increased cooperation between Alpha and Beta quadrant governments, Karliah served two consecutive tours with Task Force Omega to combat the Borg threat. It is known that during her service she was near-fatally wounded and underwent several emergency procedures, resulting in the integration of a number of prosthetic cybernetics, most notably in the form of [REDACTED]. As part of the Empire's commitment to the Khitomer Alliance, Karliah's privateer contract has been extended and broadened to include [REDACTED] operations.

While the Alliance leadership would surely never admit to enlisting such a loathsome operative, and half of them probably entirely repudiate her, from time to time a problem comes along that can't be reasoned with, bartered with, or begged of. As such, less scrupulous officials have made the determination that these problems must instead be intimidated, beaten, and broken down. In order to maintain a degree of separation, the warrant for Karliah's arrest and a small number of independent bounties have been left in place. A few enterprising bounty hunters have even succeeded in capturing her and bringing her in, and every time her captivity has been a temporary affair ending in her escape.

Eventually the number of refugees, privateers, pirates, mercenaries, and assorted miscreants that had joined Karliah's merry band grew too large to keep to one ship, and so many chose to break off from her command and begin assembling an independent flotilla of their own named the Gathering. The Gathering is assumed to drift through the Japori sector under cloak. It is rumored to have no centralized command structure, but it is known to serve as a meeting place, refuge, and black market for those who manage to find it. Karliah occasionally drops in to dock at the flotilla and make her own cantina available for use by those gathered, during which time she sells, trades, deals, and resupplies as she can afford.

MEDICAL HISTORY

PHYSICAL HEALTH ASSESSMENT
Quote from: Subject is an absolute mess. It's difficult to tell where the organic ends and the synthetic begins. She's 50% Romulan, 50% [REDACTED] machine, and 50% hate. That's 150% horrible and that's far too much.

MENTAL HEALTH ASSESSMENT
Quote from: Subject suffers from severe Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder; she turns to substance-abuse and violence as coping mechanisms and has difficulty feeling empathy for other species. She's dangerously unstable and in no way fit for active duty.
