Hello all!

I can see that the website isn't hugely active but as there are still some people posting I figured this was a good place to come and ask what the roleplay situation in STO is like currently? My search results have returned a very mixed bag, some saying it still exists in fleets and pockets, others saying it's dead etc.

I am new to STO, but not new to Star Trek or to roleplay. How much I play the game in the longer term is going to depend very much upon what Fleet and thus community I can find to join. There was no way for me to select a server or region to join, and in the fleet lists I see some people advertising timezones that are many hours away from mine, so I assume all players are on the same effective server.

I'm primarily interested in a Fleet compatible with EU timezones, if all your roleplay is going to be happening in the middle of the night or early hours of the morning for me then sadly I don't think it would be a realistic prospect. I've started on the Federation side of things at the moment but it's still very early days and I am more than happy to jump to the Klingon side of things.

I am also very happy just to meet people I can chat to or play the game with regardless of the timezone, so please feel free to reach out if you fancy making friends with my newbie self.

Cheers! :D

Hey there, welcome!

You're right the forums aren't getting much use at the moment, we're trying to turn that around a bit, but frankly most people seem to be happy chatting in the discord or in game, so whatever works, we're not trying to force stuff on people.

As for RP, that's still very much a thing! We have some big weekly events and there smaller stuff that happens more generally too. Fleets do tend to see more RP than the community as a whole, though even then your mileage may vary. STORP isn't a fleet but we are trying to run and set up events for the community as a whole to partake in.

As you say all players are in a single server which can be as much blessing as a curse! Your best bet is probably to join the discord and ask around there with regards to more casual style RP (or whatever you're looking for).

If you are set on looking for a fleet, you can check here https://forum.storp.org/fleet-recruitment/ for fleets which are currently looking for people (I'm desperately behind on getting my own fleet up there!).

Look forward to seeing you around!

Hey! I'd very much recommend going to the discord. But since I'm a lazy man, I'll just paste in the event schedule.

First Monday of the month. 2000 Eastern Time: Main story event.
First Saturday of the month. 1500 Eastern Time: Cadet RP
Second Monday of the month. 0800 Eastern Time: Main Story Event.
Second Saturday of the month. 1500 Eastern Time: Klingon Crew RP
Third Monday of the month. 2000 Eastern Time. Main Story Event.
Third Saturday of the Month. 1500 Eastern Time. Diplomatic Corps/Command RP.
Fourth Monday of the month. 1500 Eastern Time. Main Story Event.
Main story event - ongoing storyline events that include the entire alliance. Sometimes may be specialised to certain alliance faction.
Cadet RP - A more guided/GMed RP based around a class of cadets at SFA. Will focus more on commonality then rank. Only NPCs will be full members of starfleet
Klingon Crew RP - pretty self explanatory. Something that's needed to happen for a while now.
Diplomatic/command RP - A focus on the higher levels of the alliance. They will take the reports the captains make and decide where the story goes
A few Caveats. - A minimum of three players must show up for an event to run. The GMed events are a bit more 'controlled' then the others. And as always, feel free to ask me any questions.

Thank you both for the replies! :)

I did notice the Fleet Recruitment section, although the adverts there haven't been updated in a very long time so I wasn't sure how many of the Fleets were stilll active now?

So you mentioned the discord. I can see that your website has discord chat inbuilt to it, but that doesn't work for me in my browser(plus I am not one of these people who keeps their browser open all the time anyhow) and I can't find an invite link to the STORP discord anywhere on the forums. How does one access the discord via the application?

Brex

Hmmm the app is supposed to link your account to to it, it may only work if you're signed in on the browser I guess (or maybe it's changed behaviour!). Eitherway, give this a go.
